Back links to your website are very important but some links can help you and some link can hurt you.
Google measures links differently; for example, a link from a popular site to a second site increases the second site’s ranking. While two links for regular sites does not increase either site’s ranking.
This raises the question of how to get more out of the links that you want to build? Basically the type of links that a site wants to develop is between like subjects. If Google sees that site one talks about gardening and it links to another site that also talks about gardening then that link will be counted higher than say a link between a garden site and a banking site.
On the bad news side of things, there are some sites which can hurt another site ranking if they are linked together. There are websites which are often called links farms. These are website which are just nothing more than a list of links. These sorts of sites Google looks down on and will rank any site on them, linked with them, farther down on their ranking.
This means that links are very important, but one should not link with just anyone who wants a reciprocal links. The best way to raise your site in Google’s ranking is to have quality links more than hundreds of bad links.
