New Year Marketing Resolutions

If you want to have success with your online marketing then you need to start with the basic and insure that everything is running well online.  Here are the basic things you should be doing.


1) You will back up all of your computers

Every computer you work on from your home, laptop to web server needs to be backed up on regular basis.  If you can’t remember when the last time you backed up your systems was then it has been way, way too long.

With so many low cost solutions everything from remote online to an extra hard drive there really is not excuse now days not to do a backup.


2) Test your backups

This is the step that most people forget.  After you have done a backup try and do a recovery to insure that you backup does work. You don’t have to test the full recovery, just delete a small file and try and restore it.  It only takes a few minutes and it insures that your backups are good.


3) Anti-virus, Anti-spy ware, Anti spam… software is up and running.

Along with the backup you need to insure that your computers (again all of them) are not infected or vulnerable to the many problems.  There are also so many free software packages out there now there really is no excuse not to have something installed and running.

Also remember to keep this software up-to-date and to RUN IT!  Do not just install and forget about it. Run it at lease once a week.


4) Review your online marketing and promotion strategy. 

Now that you have basic security taken care of you need to review what did you do last year for marketing and promotion from yourself to your company.  What worked last year and what did not work?

Fix or change what did not work last year and continue to use what did work.  For example; If you got a good response from placing Google ads the continue, if those ads didn’t give you a good response then consider changing keywords.


5) Continuing education.

The internet is always changing.  What was hot last year maybe cold this year.  Keep reading articles and keep educating yourself with what are the trends not online in your market place but also what software and tricks are out there.

In your schedule you should set some time aside each week just for doing this type of research and education of your online skill sets.
