Do not underestimate how important of a good external links. Often called banklinks, these are links that point to your site. You can check to see how many banklinks you have by typing into the Google or Yahoo search link:www.yourdomain.com
You will notice Google and Yahoo have different amounts of links. This is because Google counts that they call quality links. Links that are just on a page or on link farms will not help increase the Google ranking.
