If you don’t follow the news Google gave out a little bit of news about their newest production which is the Chrome OS (operating system). This is the software which runs the computer and all other software runs on top of.
Chrome is the build using Linux which is a variation on UNIX. Like other Linux version, Chrome will be open source and looks to be given away for free. Chrome is not available at the moment; its official release will be summer or fall of next year, 2010.
It is too early to say if Microsoft should be worried about this. This will clearly be direct competition windows 7, the newest release of Microsoft’s OS. It’s hard to say how popular chrome might be or how many people will want to switch over. Already IBM let’s people choose between windows or Linux to be installed in their computer systems. Will the choice in 2001 be do you want Windows or Chrome?
